Every custom vehicle has a story. Inside the Build gives us a chance to share it, taking you behind the scenes of the craftsmanship, engineering, and details that define a Quality Coachworks project. For this throwback edition, we’re revisiting five standout builds, starting with the vehicle that launched the series and finishing with our latest feature. Along the way, we’re looking back at stretched executive SUVs, a mobile courthouse, and a luxury cabin designed to make time on the road more comfortable and productive.

Where the Series Started: 2025 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG

Our first Inside the Build feature explored a 2025 Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG customized with discreet armor and tactical upgrades while preserving its recognizable factory styling. The build incorporated B5 Dyneema door armor, B4 ballistic glass, a B4 Kevlar roof liner, and run-flat tires. Electric shock door handles, an integrated siren and PA system, strobe lights, and long-range driving lights added specialized functionality, while an upgraded air suspension helped accommodate the conversion. It was a fitting introduction to the series: a familiar luxury platform with substantial custom engineering beneath the surface.

Expanding the Possibilities: 2025 Cadillac Escalade ESV 30-Inch Stretch

This 2025 Cadillac Escalade ESV showed how extensively an executive SUV can be reimagined. A 30-inch stretch, doors extended by 10 inches, and a five-inch raised roof created additional room for a six-passenger cabin with diamond-stitched seating. Inside, a Maybach-style headliner, piano black trim, an upgraded Alpine sound system, and a Dometic drawer refrigerator brought together comfort and convenience. Sound deadening and thermal insulation helped refine the passenger environment, while Kevlar-reinforced door panels and run-flat inserts added protective features. The result was an Escalade built around spacious executive travel, with room to work, converse, and relax between destinations.

Craftsmanship with a Community Purpose: Justice in Motion

One of the series’ most distinctive projects took our work beyond luxury transportation. Built for the Superior Court of California, County of San Bernardino, the Justice in Motion vehicle was designed to bring court services and document processing into the community. Its interior included multiple workstations, storage, power access, and equipment integration for printers, monitors, and communications. A kitchenette, climate control, LED lighting, and durable flooring supported staff working on location, while slide-outs and exterior awnings expanded its usefulness when parked. This project demonstrated how thoughtful vehicle customization can support a public mission, creating a practical workspace that travels to the people who need it.

An Executive Cabin Worth Revisiting: 2026 Cadillac Escalade ESV CEO Conversion

Featured under the title “Our Best CEO SUV Yet?”, this 2026 Cadillac Escalade ESV brought together some of our favorite executive interior details. A five-inch raised roof and four-passenger rear layout created a spacious setting, with heated, cooled, massaging, and reclining captain’s chairs paired with aircraft-style folding tables. Starlink satellite internet and a Cradlepoint router supported connectivity, while a 48-inch television integrated into the privacy divider provided a large display for entertainment or work. Black and walnut zebra stripe wood finishes, a Maybach-style headliner, and a custom bar with a refrigerator gave the cabin its distinctive character. It remains a standout example of a vehicle designed around the passenger’s experience.

Our latest Inside the Build feature takes the retrospective in a different direction. This 2026 Hennessey VelociRaptor combines a 1,000-horsepower platform with Level B6 armor using AR600 steel and Dyneema. Twenty-inch Hennessey wheels and 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires complement the truck’s aggressive presence, while its extensive security package includes electric shock door handles, deadbolt locks, pepper spray deployment, and engine bay fire suppression. A front ram bumper, onboard bomb detection device, sound cannon, smoke screen, and road tack deployment system round out the specialized equipment. It is a memorable latest chapter in the series, bringing performance, protection, and custom functionality together in one build.
